About Wade Sumpter Industries, Inc.

KMF Research, Inc. was founded in Eugene Oregon in 1988 by Wade Sumpter. The first product manufactured was water-based face grade putty, followed by acetone-based face grade and machine grade putties.

In 2003 KMF purchased the assets of its largest competitor, Laurence-David, operating the Western Division and selling the Southern Division. In July, 2006, KMF was sold in an agreement that included a long-term non-compete, however, the rights to the East Coast, as well as Texas and Louisiana were retained. The company operated as Wade Sumpter Industries, Inc. (WSI) based in Charleston, South Carolina, during 2007 and 2008, but, due to the recession, ceased manufacturing there. WSI currently provides putty application tools to wood product manufacturers.
